Today: Tactics of the Smallville Battle: The Secret Story, Retreat (10)

Today's code is "98th Day, Last Year".

We are running silent and running deep these days, Dear Reader, listening to lies in Republican American Fascist minds.

Most of the news is not in the news. Quietly the American military is deciding if it wants to continue go along with the incredible stupidity and insanity of George W. Bush.

The questions are: Does Bush have the flag; and if he does, did he steal it?

The most interesting news story to filter to us American citizens through the profound censorship of Iraq news is the growing attacks on the Green Zone, and the sudden surge in American casualties.

Within the enveloping catastrophe which is Iraq, the Republican American Fascists are blaming the attacks on the Green Zone on the Iranians; this to quietly prep the public's punchy mind for a nuclear attack on Iran.

The world is watching this. The world is watching this. The world is watching this evil Republican American Fascist nuclear scheme--and the evil of this scheme is what the American military is attempting to pull away from.

That's about as much truth as the market will bear today, so let's return to our story, Retreat, which has gone into deep flashback and told us how Chawon, who is Tea, marooned himself on this Earth because of the Dire Consequences unfolding, and how tens of thousands of years later a rescue vessel, a member of its crew being Tatoo, the love of Tea's life, has found his reincarnated soul in ancient China and, throwing caution to the wind, sets down to rescue him.

Retreat, Part 10

"Teacher Lao! Teacher Lao! Come quick, Teacher Lao"

Running into Old Lao's courtyard was one of the urchins of the small village of Shiga Ping. It was winter, and the boy's bare feet were red with cold. His cheeks were red, too, and his mouth steamed out puffs of excited breath scented with garlic. His padded jacket and padded trousers were well outgrown, sleeves and legs ending above wrists and ankles.

Old Lao was well past doing anything quickly. Death was near. Generally, these days, he only sipped at white tea--plain hot water--and thought about things. Wife and children were all dead of past famines and plagues. He was alone, and he eked out a living teaching, which really meant remembering past times and past mistakes. He was in no sense an educated man, nor an official of the central government.

"What is it, boy" he asked, thinking it might be a snake found, or a horse with a broken leg, or any of the things which might excite a boy of seven.

"Ugly people! Ugly people! Come down from the sky!", screeched the boy as he stepped through the door and onto the dirt floor of Old Lao's hovel.

"The men killed them! Come see how ugly they are!"

Old Lao felt an ache inside him more painful than any he had ever known. It was as if a chunk of ice were in his chest, dirty frozen water embedded with stones and rotting sticks, and it would not leave.

Old Lao was too old to go to the site of the killings, but officials were eventually sent from the capital to investigate, so widely known became the incident.

The ugly people had been seen to come down out of the Lair of the Dragon in their strange vessel at night and take up residence in a cave used for storing pickling jars. They were of a hideous purple color, and tiny in size.

They walked right up to the posse of men who had gone to investigate. They might have been attacking, probably they were, but they were just too ugly to live in any case, and the men killed them on the spot and hacked their bodies up. Their strange boat then burst into flame and was destroyed.

Old Lao died a week later, and Old Wong became the teacher.

(To Be Continued)

Meanwhile, the United States of America, unaware that it was about to eat the fire, passed through the 98th day of its last year.
