Tatoo, Part 4
It was at this time that the trek of Tatoo and her little tribe became arduous and dangerous, and impossible, for once they turned west from the Nile there was nothing but desert and wilderness, and Tatoo began to understand she had made a most serious miscalculation.
While she had expected the Land of the Dogon People to be reasonably close to the River of Life it was in fact at least one thousand Chinese li from it, and there was no water and there was no food; so, Tatoo being great and able to face her errors, she stopped dead in her tracks and asked herself, asked her soul, what to do.
Tatoo had led her tribe into an Impossible Pocket, there was death in the desert ahead, there was misery and labor and absorption by the Browns and the Blacks behind.
At times the great have only their dreams; and at times it is their dreams that make the great so great.
What was it she knew? Why had she led her people to this impossible place?
And here the Great Tragedy took place.
